RUSHCLIFFE RAMBLERS
Welcome to the web site of the Ramblers' Association - Rushcliffe Group
Rushcliffe is an active walking group covering the Borough of Rushcliffe in south Nottinghamshire. The borough borders the Vale of Belvoir and north Leicestershire, Newark and Sherwood, Gedling and the City of Nottingham. Walks are mainly in these areas along with the other neighbouring counties of Leicestershire and Derbyshire. Formed in September 1988, the group has about 350 members (on an average walk you might expect 20 or so). Newcomers are always welcome.
Walks are almost every Sunday. There are also midweek walks covering the whole year; these are mostly short morning walks ending at a pub for lunch. Occasionally there may be a longer mid-week walk. Evening walks are held during the lighter nights and there is an occasional Saturday walk.
The length of walks varies from about 4 miles to 12 miles. The terrain can also vary. Some walks are gentle and easy whilst others are more strenuous. These latter walks are most likely to be in Derbyshire.
Members of the public are welcome to join any of the walks. This can be done by just turning up at the start of the walk, or by ringing the walk leader in advance and letting him/her know that you expect to join the walk. The contact phone numbers for walk leaders can be found in the programme alongside each walk. Please note also whether a packed lunch is needed or whether a pub stop has been planned. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome too on most walks, but please check with the walk leader first.
Other events are planned throughout the year. These include two weekends away, usually in the Spring and the Autumn, see the page on weekends away; two meals out - the Christmas lunch which is preceded by a short walk, and the anniversary dinner which is held on an evening in October each year. There are also other social events that vary each year. Please see the Social page for details.
